Conversational Hearts Photo Frame

Ahhh.  Valentine’s Day.  The day for love. The day for hugs, kisses, and cuddling.  The perfect time to surprise your sweet heart with a heartfelt gift to let him or her know exactly how you feel.  If you are looking for a unique idea this Valentine’s Day you’ve found it!  Read on and easily create your special valentine a Conversational Hearts Photo Frame.  It will be easy and fun and will definitely bring a smile to someone you love this Valentine’s.

MATERIALS:

One inexpensive photo frame in your choice of colors.  You may opt to choose a somewhat plain frame due to the decorations you will be adding to it.

Small wooden cut out hearts which can be found at your local hobby or arts and crafts store.  You can usually purchase a package of 10 for under $2.

Red acrylic crafting paint

Black acrylic crafting paint or a fine point permanent black pen.

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Variety of paint brushes.

A special someone to share your love and creativity with!

Let’s get started!  Begin by removing the glass from the frame and setting it to the side in a safe area.  You may want to spread out some newspaper around the area that you will be working on since you will be working with paint.  And don’t forget to  bring a small rag and small cup of water to clean off your paint brushes.

Choose the amount of hearts that you want to attach to the frame.  I chose to use  only 4. but depending on the size of the frame you choose, you may want to use more or less.  After you have the number of heart you will be using you can begin to paint them.    A cute twist to this frame would be to purchase several colors of paint in the actual colors that the candy conversational hearts are made!

Once you have the wooden hearts painted, and have allowed them sufficient time to dry, you can now begin to add the phrases to the hearts.  If you had to choose smaller hearts due to the size of your frame, and are having trouble painting on them, try using a permanent marker to write the phrases onto the hearts instead of painting.  You can use phrases such as:

KISS ME
I LUV U
BE MINE
YOURS TRULY
XOXOXO

You’re almost finished with this project!  Hasn’t it been lots of fun and so simple? OK, so you have your hearts painted and have written the sayings on them...all that’s left is to glue them onto the frame.  Practice different arrangements first until you find an arrangement that you like best.  Plug in your glue gun, dab a little glue onto the back of each heart, place it on the frame, and that’s it!  It’s complete!

A suggestion for giving this frame as a gift:  Find a photo of yourself and the gift recipient (AKA your Valentine!) and place it into the frame before wrapping.  Once you have wrapped the gift an extra cute addition to the package--add a couple of the left over wooden hearts to the box or bag for more decoration and a sneak peek for the special person!  This thoughtful and creative gift is sure to win hearts over-after all it’s a gift from the heart to the heart!  HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
