Three Quick Ideas
to Dress Up a Bare Wall
Do you have a bare wall in your home that is just screaming to be decorated? If so, then look at these 3 simple ideas for instantly transforming that bare wall space into your favorite wall in the house!
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
What you’ll need:
- Mirrors in differing sizes and shapes
- Hammer
- Nails (sheet rock anchors, if needed)
This idea is great for a fairly large area that needs TLC. You’ll need to obtain
five mirrors or more depending on the size of the space and the size of the mirrors you’ll be using. Look around at local thrift stores, yard sales, discount retailers, or even in your own home and you can most likely find a variety of mirrors. Choose different shapes and sizes. For this idea I used mostly small sized mirrors and tried to maintain a uniform color and overall motif.
When I found a mirror I just had to have for my mirror wall, but it wasn’t the right color, I just spray painted it to match! Decide if you want to randomly place the mirrors or would prefer to place them in a pattern, such as horizontal rows. For your larger and somewhat heavier mirrors, you may want to use sheet rock anchors to ensure the mirror will stay put. Additional touches to the wall add a unique and personal flare. I added a cute little hook to my "mirror" wall for a touch of something different.
Photo Frame Series:
What you’ll need:
- Similar picture frames
- Hammer
- Nails
- Photos or other items to place in frames
- Ruler
Create a series of frames on a wall in your home. This idea will work well in a smaller bare area. First you will want to find three (or more) of the same style frames. I used very simple plastic frames with black piping. Next, choose 3 pictures to go into the frames. I used greeting cards with a similar look to maintain the flow of the picture frames. You can add variety to this decorating idea by using pictures of your children, family or friends or why not display your children’s artwork. It’s your wall, make it special to you! Hang the picture frames and that’s it!
Note: You might want to use a measuring tape to ensure that the pictures are hung equal distance from one another. You can hang pictures horizontally or vertically depending on the bare space you are working with. Really, this look works best when the frames are the same and the pictures within the frames are similar in size and content material.
Geometric Style:
What you’ll need:
- Paint
- paint brush
- masking tape
- ruler
- small shelves (optional)
If you’re feeling adventurous (and are a home owner- don’t want to upset any landlords!) then take a look at this idea for a bare wall in you home. This project works best for small areas that need a little something, but nothing too complex. Using masking take and a ruler, create an outline of the geometric shape you want to paint on the wall. Shown is a simple red square.
Make sure that the tape is secure on the wall so paint will not leak outside of the taped area. Paint inside the sectioned off pattern and you’re done. For a neat twist to your new "geometric shape", place a small shelf inside the shape and display a favorite item. You can find these small shelves at any home decor store or discount retailer.
